Change Your Language to Connect With Your Target Market

Over the weekend, I spent an afternoon with my sister’s godchildren. These 3 girls are well mannered, well behaved and just lovely to be with. My friends, who are the parents, have done an excellent job raising these 3 girls.

The youngest, Hannah, is just over a year old. She’s inquisitive, active and cute as a button. She taught me alot about how to change my language for my target market.

Since she’s so young, using big, complicated words would elicit looks of confusion. So, I changed my language just a bit to make my message enjoyable for her.

The point is not to dumb down your language. Your target market isn’t stupid. Instead, change it so you connect with your target market. The video below will illustrate my point even further (my sister is behind the camera).

Video Hello from NAB 08

Here’s my first video from my very elegant Flip camera. Very easy to record, download and publish to my blog. The video is only a minute long.

Update: Ugh! There’s a slight delay between my voice and the image. Might be my connection as I’m using what’s equivalent to dial up here in the hotel. I’m uploading the clip in a m4v format and will replace the one above shortly.

Update: Okay, the m4v format solved the voice-to-mouth-movement ratio, but now, there’s a slight delay because the video is buffering. **sigh**

How to Produce Video Podcasts - New Book

After writing Podcasting for Profit, I didn’t think there could be any other book written on podcasting. But then, I found out about Richard Harrington’s new book called Producing Video Podcasts.

That’s the hole in the podcasting book genre right now - how to produce video podcasts. I’m glad to see that Richard and his co-author, Mark Weiser, have written a book about this. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy so I can share my review with you. For now, head over to the book’s website to read more.

How to Use Video to Promote Your Products and Services

Video is hot and many entrepreneurs are using it to promote their products and services. Here are some great examples:

  • Milana Leshinsky, the pioneer of the Telesummit concept and one of the speakers at the Social Media Telesummit, is using video to help fill her high ticket virtual course called Coaching Millions.
  • Sherman Hu, another speaker at the Social Media Telesummit, is using video to encourage his audience to attend the Telesummit.
  • I’m using video posted to YouTube to promote my book, Podcasting for Profit. I produced this video without using a camera.

How to Create a Video Studio on a Shoestring Budget

Yesterday evening, I had a chance to do my first video interview with Sherman Hu, one of the speakers at the Social Media Telesummit. That’s a video snapshot of me on the left.

Doing video and doing audio are 2 totally different beasts. With audio, all I need is a quiet environment, then I just plug in my microphone into my laptop, launch Audacity, then record away.

With video, I had to jump through really big hoops to get the look I wanted. Plus I had to design my studio without going broke. So, here’s how I put together my home video studio on a shoestring budget:
